10.Emma Maersk

It is the first E-Class container ship owned and operated by the A. P. Moller-Maersk Group and one of the company’s total eight container freighters. The Emma Maersk project was first launched a decade ago in 2006 and finished in 2010 with the instigation of world’s largest container ship ever built till 2010.

She was the largest container carrier along with here seven sister ships. The Emma Maersk has officially announced container capacity of 11,000 Twenty foot equivalent units to 14,700 Twenty foot equivalent units.

It all depends on the definition of sea cargo and its total weight in the containers. In the TangerMed Ebba Maersk has set a record in May 2010 by delivering 15,011 Twenty foot equivalent units.

9.CMA CGM Marco Polo

THHE EXPLORER class or just the E-Class container ship, CMA CGM Marco Polo is registered in the UK. The CMA CGM Marco Polo as its title shows that it is the property of CMA CGM group. It in the list of top 10 largest container ships because of its size.

At the end of the 2012, it achieved the position of being the largest container ship in the world by beating the Emma Maersk in capacity of delivering the container cargo across the globe. Measuring the container capacity of the CMA CGM Marco Polo, it can carry 16,020 twenty foot equivalent units at once.

In February 2013, the CMA CGM Marco Polo was packed down by the Maersk Triple E 4 class with container capacity of 18,270 Twenty foot equivalent units. It is a 400 meters long container ship which is around 4m longer in length than the CMA CGM Marco Polo or any other equivalent ship.

The CMA CGM Marco Polo was entitled after Venetian merchant and traveler Marco Polo who was one of the greatest explorers of the globe in the history, such as Vasco De Gama and Columbus.

8.CMA CGM Vasco De Gama

The giant CMA CGM Vasco de Gama was named after Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama. It is another E-Class or Explorer class containership owned and built for CMA CGM Group.

In July 2015, the CMA CGM Vasco de Gama container ship was delivered as the part of the world’s largest container ships family. The CMA CGM Vasco de Gama has the container cargo capacity of around 17,865 twenty foot Equivalent Units.

7.CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin

Not so late after the instigation of CMA CGM Vasco de Gama, CMA CGM has honored the great explorer and United States founding father Benjamin Franklin with the introduction of CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin explorer class container ship.

This container ship delivered in November 2015 as a largest container cargo carrier in its class with official container capacity of 18,000 TEU or twenty foot equivalent units.

It is around 0.8 meters shorter than the Maersk Triple E 4 class which has container capacity of 18,270 Twenty foot equivalent units. Maersk Triple E 4 class is a 400 meters long container ship, while the CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin has a calculated length of 399.2metres

6.Madison Maersk (EEE) or Triple E class

The first VLCV class container ship in the list of top 10 container ships has arrived. It is an officially announced very large container vessel that is in short called VLCV in the shipping world. It is Madison Maersk (EEE) or Triple E class container carrier built by the south Korean Ship building and Marine Engineering firm named Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in 2014.

It was not the only ship which was under construction at Daewoo Shipbuilding, there were several other container ships including Matz Maersk, Maribo Maersk, Magleby Maersk, Marstal Maersk, and Mayview Maersk was also being constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding.

These entire sister ships were built at very advanced and improved architecture and propulsion system, the three ships out of the total accomplishes improved dynamic features and lower fuel consumption. The Madison Maersk (EEE) or Triple E class ship has capacity for 18,270 twenty foot Equivalent Unit and is further lodged with 1800 reefer plugs.

5.MSC New York

MSC NEW YORK container ship was built in 2014 as one of the largest container carriers and currently cruising under the flag of Panama. MSC NEW YORK is not an under sized vessel but has a length of 399 meters in total and beam of 54m.

The MSC NEW YORK is one of the heaviest cargo vessels across the globe with the gross tonnage of 176490 tons and it has a container carrying capacity of 18270 twenty foot Equivalent Units.

4.Magleby Maersk Triple E-Class cargo vessel

Magleby Maersk is another Triple E-Class cargo vessel and one of the largest container ships of the world classified as very large cargo vessel or VLCV. This container vessel was built in South Korea with its other sister ships at the shipyard of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

The hull number of the vessel is 4255 and the vessel owned and sailed by the Ap Moller-Maersk, which is a largest Danish container ship operator and has very vast operation of container shipping in the world.

Magleby Maersk is the biggest and leading Maersk Triple E-Class ship. The Magleby Maersk Triple E-Class cargo vessel has the capacity of 18,270 twenty foot Equivalent Unit containers.

3.Barzan UASC (United Arab Shipping Company)

Now starts the list of ultra big and giant container vessels and it starts with the ultra large Barzan UASC. The Barzan UASC is owned by the United Arab Shipping Company and it is an ultra large container ship which is a step ahead of the very large cargo vessels VLCVs.

As of July 2015, it has a great reputation among the largest container ships all over the world. The series of six 18,800 TEU – twenty foot Equivalent Unit containers – container ships starts with the Barzan UASC owned by United Arab Shipping Company. It was also built by in South Korea by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

And it has great performance figures and according to the builder, it has far lower carbon emissions than the ultra advanced Maersk triple EEE class cargo container ships family where container ships including Matz Maersk, Maribo Maersk, Magleby Maersk, Marstal Maersk, and Mayview Maersk and Madison Maersk (EEE) or Triple E class are leading the game in the container shipping across the globe.

2.CSCL Globe- MV CSCL container vessel

The China Shipping Container Lines Globe MV CSCL is the ultra big container ship owned and sailed by China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL). According to the current shipping industry situation, the CSCL Globe- MV CSCL container vessel is the largest container carrier in the world.

It is the first of a family of five ultra big ships envisioned for trade routes between Asia and Europe. CSCL Globe- MV CSCL container vessel is the biggest container ship in the world since the time of her unveiling in November 2014. The CSCL Globe- MV CSCL container vessel has a maximum container capacity of 19,100 TEU or twenty foot containers. However, there are four ships still under construction and will be launched soon by China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL).

1.MSC OSCAR

The MSC OSCAR container vessel is also categorized as the ultra big cargo ship. It was first planned for carrying 18,400 twenty foot containers but when the construction work was completed, the company announced that the capacity of the MSC OSCAR has been increased by 19,224 TEU or twenty foot containers and that lifted the MSC OSCAR up in the list of ultra big cargo ships.

The container capacity including the 1,800 refrigerated containers as well. The MSC OSCAR has the officially announced deadweight tonnage of 197,362DWT. The MSC OSCAR has some limitations as well where she can only carry a full load of containers if each has a mean weight not over and above 10.2 tons. With ordinary 14-ton containers, the cargo capacity is 14,000 TEU.
